Watcher of Death, Transformation, and Sovereignty

In the night sky, blood-red and blazing, sits Antares, the Heart of the Scorpion and the Great Watcher of the West. More than just a fixed star, Antares is a living daemon spirit; a gatekeeper of transformation, wielder of destruction, and ignitor of divine fire within the soul of the witch. As one of the Four Royal Stars of ancient Persia, Antares was known as the Guardian of the West, the direction of death, endings, and the underworld. The ancients knew what the modern world forgets. That in the west, where the sun dies each day, power is born through the mysteries of descent.

Star of the Scorpion: The Red Heart of Mars

Antares is found in the constellation Scorpius, and its name comes from the Greek Anti-Ares “Rival of Mars”, due to its glowing red hue. It holds a Mars-Jupiter nature in traditional astrology, bringing violent intensity, leadership, spiritual fire, and karmic trial. To the ancients, a royal star like Antares didn’t just influence fate, he embodied a celestial intelligence. It was, and is, a Daemon in the truest occult sense: a divine intermediary spirit, fierce and sovereign.

Gatekeeper of the Western Current

In traditional Hermetic magic, the Four Royal Stars were placed at the fixed points of the sky and called the Watchers:

  • Aldebaran (Watcher of the East)
  • Regulus (Watcher of the North)
  • Fomalhaut (Watcher of the South)
  • Antares (Watcher of the West)

Antares, as Watcher of the West, governs:

  • Death & Initiation
  • The Underworld
  • The Descent of the Soul
  • The Alchemy of Power through Pain
  • Sorcery and Sovereignty

This is the flame that destroys the false self, clearing the way for true will and dark ascension. To align with Antares is to embrace the fire of annihilation. Not as punishment, but as sacred purification.

For the witch, Antares is a sacred ally. His fire is not masculine conquest, it is the furnace of transmutation, where shadow becomes sovereignty. You might feel Antares stirring within you if:

  • You are undergoing ego death or spiritual rebirth
  • You are reclaiming rage, fire, or personal power
  • You are called to work with the dead, the Scorpion current, or the descent path
  • You are shedding roles and identities, stepping into your divine self

Antares says:

“Burn. Transform. Rise. Nothing real can be destroyed.”

Magical Uses and Alignment

You can call upon the daemon spirit of Antares for:

  • Baneful magic and righteous wrath
  • Shadow integration and death work
  • Initiation into sovereignty
  • Protection from false authority
  • Empowerment of your will and word

Spellwork Tip:

Use Antares in ritual when the Moon or Sun is conjunct the star (around 9° Sagittarius tropical). Wear or anoint with red oils like dragon’s blood, cinnamon, or chili. Burn incense of wormwood, myrrh, and red sandalwood. Carve or chant the name Antares as a Word of Power. See the blood-red flame rising behind your eyes. Let it burn away weakness. Let it show you your true name.

Antares is one of the daemonic star intelligences that align with the divine mind of Hekate and the Council of Witch Elders. Antares is the Flame of the West: the burning portal through which dark power is reclaimed. Antares is not just a star, but a Living Gate. A whispering flame. A daemon who walks beside those witches ready to shed skin, speak truth, and walk sovereign through shadow

Antares Spirit Seal

Creating a talisman for the Moon–Antares conjunction is powerful for dark witchcraft, shadow integration, sovereign will, and psychic fire. This transit unites the blood-red flame of Antares with the magnetic, intuitive force of the Moon, making it perfect for spellwork involving:

  • Empowerment through emotional alchemy
  • Mediumship, death work, or spirit contact
  • Releasing what no longer serves
  • Wielding shadow power for your True Will
  • Sorcery, baneful magic, and psychic protection

Here’s how to craft a potent talisman:

Step-by-Step: Talisman for Moon–Antares Conjunction

1. Timing

Track when the Moon conjuncts Antares — approximately when the Moon is at 9°–10° Sagittarius (tropical zodiac). If possible, begin in the hour of Mars or the Moon, depending on your focus.

✴ Next conjunction: Check your ephemeris or ask me to confirm current timing.

2. Talisman Materials

You can use any of these, depending on your style (physical, paper, or digital magic):

  • Small piece of iron, obsidian, black onyx, or red jasper
  • Thick paper, parchment, or black card
  • Red or black ink, or blood (if using blood magic)
  • Dragon’s blood resin, wormwood, myrrh, or red sandalwood incense
  • Your ritual tools: dagger, wand, or smoke fan
  • A sigil of Antares (pictured below)

3. Ritual: Enflame the Talisman

  1. Cast your circle (or work in your preferred space of power).
  2. Light incense—wormwood + dragon’s blood ideal.
  3. Hold the talisman, breathe in deeply, and call out:
“I call to the Watcher of the West, Antares, Flame of Descent, Heart of the Scorpion, Daemon Star of Sovereignty. Bind this talisman with your fire. Let it awaken my Will, shield my shadow, And open the gate to truth and power. By blood, by ash, by flame—I seal this.”

  1. Charge the talisman by passing it through incense smoke and flame (safely). Press it to your heart or third eye while visualizing a red fire spiraling around you, cleansing and empowering.
  2. Anoint with oil if desired (cinnamon, red clove, chili-infused oil).
  3. Close the rite by thanking Antares. Offer a drop of wine, a pinch of ash, or a vow to act in sovereign will.

5. Talisman Uses

  • Wear during rituals of power, baneful work, or spirit contact
  • Place on your altar as a flame of sovereignty
  • Carry during times of spiritual battle or shadow integration
  • Use to amplify dark feminine empowerment workings
