Purpose: To break a hex, curse, or crossed condition with Hekate’s aid.
What You Need:
- 1 whole head of garlic (or 3 cloves for a lighter working)
- A small dish of salt
- Black cloth (optional, for disposal)
- Your Working candle

- A crossroads or liminal place (optional but powerful)
Steps:
- Prepare the Space
- Light the candle and call upon Hekate. Charm the garlic with the psalm to Hekate Alexeatis -
"O Hekate Alexeatis, Shield of the Witch, Guardian at the Threshold, I call to You who turns aside the poison path.
You who see the shadow before it strikes, You who cast back the eye that envies, You who make the hex unwind, Stand before me now with torches blazing.
By your crossroads I am claimed. By your keys I am locked from harm. By your hounds I am guarded, And no evil shall cross the circle you draw.
O Witch Queen, Breaker of Curses, Turn the foul word to ash. Reflect the malice back to its maker. Wrap me in the cloak of your unseen light.
Let no footstep follow me unbidden. Let no spirit near me without your mark. Let no tongue wag against me Without tasting your justice.
Where your name is spoken, No darkness can dwell. Where your eye is fixed, No evil can root.
I give offerings at your altar, And walk in the light of your warding fire. I fear no curse, no ill intent, For Hekate Alexeatis walks with me.
Three times three I am sealed, By torch, by key, by dagger, Under your dominion, Safe and sovereign."
- Garlic Rubbing (Old Folk Method)
- Peel one clove of garlic.
- Rub the clove firmly over your body from head to toe, moving downward only (to draw the crossed condition away).
- As you rub, whisper: “Maledictio Rumpitur” - The Curse is Broken (Pron; mala-dic-teeroom-pitour)
- Focus especially on the crown of your head, the heart, palms, and soles of your feet.
- Salt Seal
- After rubbing, dip your fingertips into the salt and lightly sprinkle it over your head, heart, and feet to seal your energy.
- Say the Witches Prayer
"Hail Hekate, Queen of Witches, Sacred in our sight.
Let magic flow, True Will to know.
On earth, as in realms beyond the veil.
Grant us this day, the power to wield Thy flame
Bless our steps on sacred paths,
Release all bindings that hold us fast.
Lead us through the crossroads, guard us with Thy light,
Deliver us from hidden harm, and from all enemies' sight.
For Thine is the Torch, the Key, the Gate,
The Wisdom, the Will, the Power to Create.
Forevermore, in dark and flame,
We honor and praise Thy Holy Name."
- Disposal (The Key Step)
- Take the used garlic clove(s) and wrap them in the black cloth (or simply in paper).
- Carry them to a crossroads, or leave them at the base of a tree at a liminal place (like where a path splits).
- As you walk away, do not look back.
- Closing
- Thank Hekate with a simple offering (bread, wine, eggs, or more garlic at the crossroads or her Altar).
- Snuff the candle, knowing the uncrossing has begun working.
Notes & Variations
- For stronger cases, use a whole head of garlic: rub each clove across the body, then dispose of all together.
- If you cannot reach a crossroads, dispose of the garlic in running water or bury it far from your home.
- This can be repeated three nights in a row for stubborn hexes.
